Mouthwash with Carrageenan as an active ingredient

Mouthwash without Carrageenan but similar in colour, taste, and "mouthfeel" to the experimental mouthwash

15 - 20 ml of mouthwash to be gargled vigorously for 30 to 60 seconds daily (morning and night) as an adjunct to regular toothbrushing, and before and/or immediately after sexual activities.

This is a placebo-controlled, triple-blind randomized clinical trial (RCT) designed to evaluate the feasibility of conducting a larger multicentric RCT investigating the effect of a Carrageenan mouthwash on oral HPV infection. Eligible participants will complete a single in-person visit at baseline, filling out a questionnaire on their electronic device and giving an oral rinse sample for HPV testing. They will receive an adequate supply of mouthwash and instructions on its use. They will subsequently be followed up for up to six months. Every two weeks, participants will fill out a follow-up questionnaire on mouthwash use and sexual activities and self-collect oral rinse sample to be returned by mail.

Carrageenan for the Prevention of Oral HPV Infection: a Feasibility, Randomized Clinical Trial

Time to type-specific oral HPV infection will be recorded for participants with negative type-specific oral HPV status at baseline

Time to type-specific oral HPV clearance will be recorded for participants with positive type-specific oral HPV status at baseline

This will be measured by the total number of participants recruited into the study. The investigators intend to recruit 40 participants. Recruitment rate will be calculated as number of participants per month.

The proportion of individuals who enrolled into the study but left before the end of the study will be documented.

This will be calculated as the proportion of participants who completed the study and complied with the mouthwash use regimen.

This will be calculated as the proportion of participants who completed the study and complied with the bi-weekly self-sampling procedure

Qualitative and quantitative assessment will be used to evaluate participants' experience with the RCT through the follow-up questionnaire and an exit question. Participants will be asked to rate their satisfaction with the study procedure on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest satisfaction level). This will focus on level of satisfaction of the participants with mouthwash use around sexual activities and the level of satisfaction of the participants with the biweekly self-sampling.

The mean pain score (for any pain ascribed to the mouthwash e.g., burning mouth, recurrent aphthous stomatitis e.t.c.) measured on the VAS (1-10; 10 being the worst pain) will be recorded.

Stomatitis/oral mucositis is a common side effect to chemotherapy. Stomatitis is often associated with painful ulcers in the mouth. The study hypothesis is that morphine administrated as a mouthwash can relieve stomatitis-related pain by a local analgesic effect.

The purpose of this study is to test the analgesic effect of a morphine mouthwash versus morphine injections or placebo (no active drug) in children/adolescents with stomatitis related to chemotherapy. Besides the investigational drugs (morphine mouthwash and morphine injections) the children/adolescents receive a standardized analgesic treatment for stomatitis-related pain.

Subjects will be randomized to twice daily chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash for 21 days.

Chlorhexidine gluconate is a germicidal mouthwash that reduces bacteria in the mouth.

This is a randomized, open-label pilot study to assess whether treatment with chlorhexidine mouthwash can alter the esophageal and gastric cardia microbiome

Patients scheduled for upper endoscopy for clinical indications will be randomized to 3 weeks of either no treatment or use of twice daily chlorhexidine mouthwash leading up to the endoscopy. There will be 2-3 study visits, at Day 0 and Day 21, and for those subjects in the mouthwash arm, a final visit 1-2 weeks following the Day 21 visit. Subjects will be required to fast overnight prior to the visits on Days 0 and 21.

Participants were instructed to report any side effects of chlorhexidine. Tooth discoloration (a possible side effect of chlorhexidine use) was assessed by a dentist using photographs. The dentist was blinded to whether the images were from pre- or post-treatment.

Surgical site infections are an important health indicator for hospitals and a significant medico-economic issue.

The aim of the study is to assess the impact of chlorhexidine mouthwash performed before surgery on the bacterial colonization of the pharyngeal mucosa.

The main objective is to reduce the number of patients with significant pathogenic bacterial colonization for pharyngeal mucosa at the end of the surgery. Oral flora is the same as the pharyngeal flora, so this suggests that the action of the oral mouthwash may also act in pharyngeal mucosa by buccopharyngeal communication.

Patients will be randomized into two groups :

* preoperative oral preparation with sodium chloride (NaCl) 0.9% (control group)
* preoperative oral preparation with chlorhexidine (experimental group)

A quantitative and qualitative analysis will be performed from samples collected during the surgery : before mouthwash (T0), after mouthwash (T1), before intubation in the operating room (T2), after intubation (T3), before incision (T4) and just before the end of the intervention on the mucosal scar (T5)

Effect of Oral Preparation on Bacterial Colonization of the Pharyngeal Mucosa in Surgery of Head and Neck Cancer

The percentage of patients with pharyngeal mucosa colonization will be determined from the sample collected on the mucosal scar just before the end of the surgery (T5)

The number of patients with a significant rate of pathogen germs will be determined from the sample collected after mouthwash (T1)

The type of germs will be determined for all the samples collected during the surgery (i.e. before mouthwash (T0), after mouthwash (T1), before intubation in the operating room (T2), after intubation (T3), before incision (T4) and just before the end of the intervention on the mucosal scar (T5))

The number of positive cultures of pathogen germs will be determined for all the samples collected during the surgery (i.e. before mouthwash (T0), after mouthwash (T1), before intubation in the operating room (T2), after intubation (T3), before incision (T4) and just before the end of the intervention on the mucosal scar (T5))

The kinetics of the number of CFU/ml will be determined from all the samples collected during the surgery (i.e. before mouthwash (T0), after mouthwash (T1), before intubation in the operating room (T2), after intubation (T3), before incision (T4) and just before the end of the intervention on the mucosal scar (T5))

The number of CFU/ml of pathogens germs will be determined for all the samples collected during the surgery (i.e. before mouthwash (T0), after mouthwash (T1), before intubation in the operating room (T2), after intubation (T3), before incision (T4) and just before the end of the intervention on the mucosal scar (T5))

The change in the number of CFU/ml of pathogen germs will be assessed using the samples collected before (T2) and after intubation (T3)
