Patients with a pathological confirmation of GC diagnosis

The study uses a case-control design that examines the differences in types of exposures between cases defined with a pathological confirmation of GC diagnosis, and controls, defined as patients to whom a gastroscopy was indicated and confirmed absent of GC i

GC is associated to several known risk factors. Epidemiological and molecular features of GCs can vary widely. The reasons behind these differences are multiple and complex and may include genetic susceptibility, strains of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), Epstein Barr virus infection, dietary factors and others. These factors can influence GC outcomes. There is little knowledge regarding how these risk factors are associated with GC in CELAC and EU populations.

The primary objectives of this study are to:

1. Identify risk factors associated with GC in the CELAC and EU populations participating in this study including Argentina, Spain, Mexico, Netherlands, Chile, Portugal and Paraguay.
2. Identify clinical, demographic, and epidemiological differences among the populations participating in this study

The ratio of the odds of exposure vs. odds of no exposure to a variety of potential sources of GC risk factors in cases vs. controls.

This study is divided into two parts:

Part 1: An interventional study, with a pre-post study design to determinate the grade of knowledge of established GC risk factors.

Part 2: An observational study to know impact on prevalence and infection eradication of H. pylori

Part 1: to determinate the grade of knowledge of established GC risk factors and identification of attitudes about, GC screening programs at baseline, prior to the intervention though an educational program.

Part 2: to generate an H. pylori registry, to know its impact on prevalence and infection eradication rate at 6th, 12th, 24th and at Month 36th.

Gastric Cancer Risk Factors Knowledge in European and Latinamerican Population

Interventional Study at the Primary and Secondary Levels of Prevention for Knowledge Regarding GC Risk Factors in EU and CELAC Populations

Compare the results obtained through a knowledge of CG risk factors by study-specific questionnaire before and after an educational intervention

Generate an H. pylori registry, to know its impact on prevalence and infection eradication rate at months 6th, 12th, 24th and 36th.

Patients with high diagnostic suspicion of advanced GC diagnosis

Observational study (cohort type) of advanced GC patients that will be recruited prospectively to study biological factors associated with the disease and relevant clinical outcomes.

Despite of multiple attempts to improve treatment in recent decades, none strategies has improved prognosis in locally advanced stage III and IV GC. A therapeutic approach to GC based on current histological and image criteria (Tumour Node Metastasis -TNM- stage) is insufficient. Although multiple targeted agents are currently under investigation, so far, only trastuzumab and ramucirumab have demonstrated efficacy in advanced GC and have a regulatory approval. For this reason, the identification of specific targets that could be susceptible for drug inhibition, is an urgent requirement. Moreover, most studies and current international databases on late-stage/advanced GC are largely based on Asian populations, in sharp contrast tumour biology and genome of EU or CELAC populations remain poorly known.

The primary objective of this study are to:

1. Characterize a multi-centric cohort including EU and CELAC populations diagnosed with advanced GC through a multi-omic approach including proteomics, genomics, transcriptomics, microbiome and exposome analysis due to study the determinants of GC.
2. Identify the regional differences in EU and CELAC populations recruiting patients for this study for each omic characterization due to identify the high-risk group populations.
3. Identify and select from the multi-omic approach those biomarkers useful for the development of an algorithm to guide the therapeutic approach for advanced GC.

Advanced GC Multi-omic Characterization in EU and CELAC Populations

The project will look for an integrative diagnostic algorithm that incorporates multi-parameter inputs and apply artificial intelligence to provide more personalized risk estimates and which will form the basis for future development of a clinical tool
