This will be a single-site, five-arm, parallel group randomized control trial involving patients seeking integrative healthcare. Four different styles of 5-minute, audio-recoded mindfulness practices delivered in the clinic waiting room will be compared with a 5-minute audio-recording about integrative healthcare.

A secondary sub-analysis will investigate the most effective mindfulness practice style for patients presenting at the clinic with elevated anxiety, depression, or pain.

Idle Waiting or Meditating: Does a Brief, Mindfulness Intervention in the Clinic Waiting Room Improve Patient Outcomes?

75% of patients that begin an audio recording will listen to the full, 5-minute recording

Single item assessing pain ("Right now, I feel physical pain") scored on an 11-point (0=Not at all, 10=Very much) numeric rating scale. Higher scores indicate greater pain.

Single item assessing anxiety ("Right now, I feel nervous, anxious or on edge") scored on an 11-point (0=Not at all, 10=Very much) numeric rating scale. Higher scores indicate greater anxiety.

Single item assessing depression ("Right now, I feel down, depressed, of uninterested in life") scored on an 11-point (0=Not at all, 10=Very much) numeric rating scale. Higher scores indicate greater depression.

Participants will be exposed to a virtual reality simulation of the operating room environment for a minimum of ten minutes.

Participants will receive standard of care with no additional intervention aside from information received at their surgical oncology appointment and optional preoperative education classes (available to all patients).

The virtual reality simulation will begin with the participant sitting on a hospital bed wearing the virtual reality headset and holding the controllers. Participants will be oriented to the environment and provided with an explanation of how to navigate through the simulation (for approximately 2 minutes). Next, participants will explore the virtual operating room for a minimum of 5 minutes, or longer if desired. Following the exploration period, the scripted portion of the simulation will be begin. Here, participants will be taken through the mock anesthetic induction process (the virtual anesthetist will speak to the patient and walk them through the steps and the virtual nurse will assist). The simulation ends after the virtual oxygen mask is placed over the participant's mouth and the screen darkens.

This study will pilot test and explore the feasibility of a virtual reality simulation of the operating room environment to reduce anxiety/distress in cancer surgery patients. Study objectives are to evaluate recruitment and data collection procedures, outcome measures, participant feedback on the virtual reality operating room intervention, and the inclusion of a treatment as usual group, and effects of the intervention on symptoms of anxiety/distress. Results of this study will inform the design of an upcoming larger-scale RCT to assess the efficacy of this intervention

This study will employ a single-blind randomized design (1:1 randomization; stratified according to surgery type \[with vs. without reconstruction\] and whether or not neoadjuvant chemotherapy was received; stratification will designate equal proportions of participants with these characteristics across each of the two study groups).

A breast biopsy is a cause for anxiety for most women when faced with a diagnosis of breast cancer. Physiological and psychological effects of breast biopsy may continue in the pre-biopsy and post-biopsy period. The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two different aromatherapy methods applied in reducing anxiety before breast biopsy.

Anxiety level was evaluated according to objective criteria by pretesting and posttesting lavender, lavender-mint and odorless (placebo) aromatherapy tablets applied before the biopsy in patients scheduled for breast biopsy.

The study was conducted with 135 patients, 90 of whom were in the experimental group and 45 in the control group. Patients were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups according to their sequence numbers.

Before the biopsy, lavender aromatherapy and lavender-mint aromatherapy tablets were administered to the experimental group, and an odorless (placebo) aromatherapy tablet to the control group. Aromatherapy tablets 20 minutes after the procedure. First, a small (approximately 1x 0.5 inch), rectangular, absorbent, self-adhesive tablet containing 2 ml of lavender essential oil (10) was adhered to the patient's shoulder level. Research data were collected with the "Spielberger State Anxiety Scale" to determine the level of anxiety before and after breast biopsy.

State Anxiety Level is evaluated by Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory - This inventory is a four-degree Likert type scale ranging from "Almost never" to "Almost always". In the state anxiety scale, the individual evaluates how he/ she feels "right now". The total score obtained from each scale varies between 20 and 80. A high score indicates a high anxiety level, a low score indicates a low anxiety level
