The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of electric stimulation on the pelvic floor function in cervical cancer patients with type III hysterectomy.

This is a prospective, multi center, open, randomized, controlled clinical trial. All cervical carcinoma patients who undergo type III hysterectomy in the hospitals involved in this study were recruited. 5-7 days postoperative, those who meet the inclusion criteria and without the exclusion criteria and sign the consent were randomized grouped of intervention and control objective by 1:1. At the same time, according to the research hospital, menopausal status (menopause vs menopause) and surgery approach (laparoscopic vs open)，they were further stratified randomly. Patients in the intervention group received electrical stimulation treatment based on conventional clinical nursing, while patients in control group only receive routine clinical care. Except for the treatment of electrical stimulation, other research procedures is the same in the two groups. The recovery rate of urination function, pelvic floor function and life quality of the two group is compared.

The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if light electrical stimulation to the wrist area during surgery is feasible in women having breast surgery.

Study Groups:

If you are eligible to take part in this study, you will be randomly assigned (as in the flip of a coin) to 1 of 2 study groups. This is done because no one knows if one study group is better, the same, or worse than the other group.

If you are in Group 1, you will receive light electrical stimulation to the wrist area during surgery. You will also receive standard of care drugs to reduce PONV. If you have nausea or you are vomiting after surgery, you will receive additional standard of care drugs for those symptoms. You may ask the study staff for information about how the drugs are given and their risks.

If you are in Group 2, you will receive standard of care drugs to reduce PONV only (you will not receive electrical stimulation). If you have nausea or you are vomiting after surgery, you will receive additional standard of care drugs for those symptoms.

Electrical Stimulation:

The electrical stimulation is applied through a small sticky pad that is connected to a machine called a neuromuscular blockade monitor (NMBN). NMBNs are routinely used by anesthesiologists to monitor drug levels in muscles during surgery.

The pad will be placed on your wrist after you receive anesthesia and removed at the end of surgery so you will not know what group you are in.

Study Procedures:

Both Groups:

* You will have blood (about 2 teaspoons) collected intravenously (through your IV) during surgery. This blood will be used for genetic testing that may explain why people respond differently to treatments for nausea and vomiting.
* You will complete a questionnaire about your pre-treatment expectations and your nausea every 15 minutes after you wake up after surgery until you leave the clinic. It should take about 2-3 minutes to complete the questionnaire each time.

Length of Study:

Your participation in this study will be over once you leave the clinic after surgery.

This is an investigational study. The NMBM monitor is commercially available and FDA approved for use by anesthesiologists to monitor drug levels in the muscles during surgery. Its use in this study to control nausea/vomiting is investigational.

Up to 176 participants will be enrolled in this study. All will be enrolled at MD Anderson.

Intraoperative Acupoint Stimulation to Prevent Post-Operative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV)

Intraoperative Electrical Stimulation of the Acupoint P6 to Prevent Post-Operative Nausea and Vomiting in Women Undergoing Breast Cancer Surgery

If a participant fails to have complete control of nausea at any time during PACU stay, participant considered as having PONV. Researchers will use a 1-sided chi-squared test of proportions with Type I error of 0.1 to test for difference in PONV incidence.

Nausea assessed verbally on an eleven-point scale (0=no nausea to 10=worst nausea imaginable). Vomiting defined as the forceful expulsion of gastric contents from the mouth. Retching, i.e. an active attempt to vomit without expulsion of gastric contents, categorized as vomiting. Complete control defined as no nausea ≥3, vomiting, or use of anti-emetics during PACU stay.

Trial feasible if:

1. At least 20% of screened patients meet inclusion criteria,
2. 50% of patients who meet the inclusion criteria consent, and
3. 75% of patients within the acupuncture arm complete all procedures.

Will be used high voltage electrical stimulation, Neurodyn High Volt Model (IBRAMED), twice a week, over the course of seven weeks,in 20-minute sessions on alternate days. The parameters are: high voltage pulsed current, monopolar (cathode), 100 Hz, synchronized mode, on/off relationship of 3:9 seconds, rise/decay 2:1 seconds, and motor threshold. The electrodes are positioned in the middle and distal thirds of the anterior surface of the forearm and arm.

The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of electrical stimulation at the speed of blood circulation and tactile sensitivity of the arms of women who underwent axillary dissection for breast cancer.

Introduction: the surgical treatment of breast cancer, especially axillary lymphadenectomy (AL), can cause blood circulatory changes, also partial or total lesion of the sensory nerve intercostobrachial, often causing anesthesia or hypoesthesia in the corresponding dermatome ipsilateral upper limb surgery. Objective: to investigate the influence of high voltage electrical stimulation (HVES) in the in the blood flow and tactile sensitivity in nerve path intercostobrachial of women undergoing AL. Methodology: sample of 30 volunteers, aged between 40 and 60 years, divided into two equal groups (n = 15): women with axillary dissection for breast cancer undergoing therapeutic procedure (GAL) and control group (CG) composed of women who did not undergoing axillary surgery. The treatment procedure consist of the application of high voltage electrical simulation for 30 minutes in both limbs twice a week over the course of seven weeks. The profile of blood flow, including speed, direction were evaluated by means of continuous wave Doppler ultrasound. The assessment of tactile sensitivity was accomplished through esthesiometer in three stages: before the start of the first therapeutic procedure, after completion of the intervention and 30 days after the end of treatment (wash-out). The data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics (ANOVA) even as the hypothesis testing of Shapiro-Wilk and if the data are not normally distributed, non-parametric tests will be used. For the analyses will be used SPSS software with critical level of 5%. The results obtained on this study aim to justify therapies for intervention with that equipment in the treatment of morbidities caused by axillary linfadenectomy.

Effects of Electrical Stimulation on Blood Circulation and Sensibility Tactil in Lymphadenectomy

Will be used Estesiômetro Semmes-Weinstein (SORRY®) to evaluate the tactile sensibility in dermatomes corresponding on the medial and superior-posterior arm.

The evaluation of the peripheral arterial and venous flow in the upper limbs will be accomplished through the equipment ultrasound Doppler (Nicolet Vascular Versalab SE®), and the collection site will be in the antecubital fossa, of the brachial artery and brachial vein.

The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if one acupuncture treatment approach is more effective than another in helping to relieve neuropathy in cancer patients.

Peripheral neuropathy is a common problem among cancer patients who have received chemotherapy treatment. Acupuncture is a technique that may treat symptoms by inserting very thin, solid, sterile, stainless steel needles into the skin at specific points. Weak electrical stimulation is also applied to the needles to try to improve the treatment effects of the acupuncture.

Study Groups:

If you are found to be eligible to take part in this study, you will be randomly assigned (as in a roll of dice) to 1 of 3 groups. This is done because no one knows if one study group is better, the same, or worse than the other group.

* If you are in Group 1, you will have will have acupuncture sessions with electrical stimulation 3 times a week for 4 weeks, for a total of 12 sessions. Then, you will take a 2 week break. After that, you will randomly assigned to receive 12 sessions of acupuncture with electrical stimulation as before or not have anymore sessions in this study.
* If you are in Group 2, you will have will have acupuncture sessions without electrical stimulation 3 times a week for 4 weeks, for a total of 12 sessions. Then, you will take a 2 week break. After that, you will randomly assigned to receive 12 extra sessions of acupuncture without electrical stimulation or not have anymore sessions in this study.
* If you are in Group 3, you will have acupuncture sessions 3 times per week over 4 weeks for a total of 12 sessions. You may or may not have electrical stimulation at these sessions. These sessions will begin 14 weeks after you enroll.

Study Visits Before the First Acupuncture Session:

You will return to the clinic about 7-10 days after the screening visit. The following tests will be performed 2 times over a 1-2 week span:

* You will complete 3 questionnaires. The questionnaires will ask about any pain you may be having, about numbness and tingling you may be having, and about other cancer symptoms, such as fatigue and appetite changes. In total, these questionnaires should take 15-20 minutes to complete.
* Your tongue will be checked and you heart rate will be measured. This information will help the study doctor/acupuncturist learn how your body's organs are functioning together.
* If you can become pregnant, urine will be collected for a pregnancy test. To take part in this study, you must not be pregnant.

A series of tests used to check your nerve function will also be performed. In total, it should take about 1-2 hours to complete these 4 tests. The following nerve function tests will be performed:

* You will complete hand tasks, such as writing, card turning, picking up small objects, and stacking). You will also be timed as you insert 25 shaped pegs into a board.
* You will complete 2 balance tests. The first balance test measures how long you can stand on 1 leg. The second balance test measures your ability to stand up from a chair, walk about 10 feet, and return back to the chair.

Acupuncture Sessions:

At each session, before you receive the acupuncture, your tongue checked and your heart rate will be measured.

Your first acupuncture session may be on the same day as some of the tests described above, if possible. If not, it will be scheduled for another day no more than 14 days after the screening visit, unless you are in Group 3.

For each session, you will be placed in a comfortable position and the study doctor/acupuncturist will find points on your body where the needles will be placed. All study participants will have the needles placed at the same points on the body (the hands, feet, legs, abdomen, and scalp).

Very thin, solid, sterile, stainless steel needles will be used. All of the needles are specially made for acupuncture. The depth of the needle in the skin and the number of needles used is based on standard acupuncture procedures. The needles will remain in place for about 20 minutes.

Electrical stimulation will be added to some of the needles on your feet and hands. This involves placing wires on the needles, which are connected to a machine that delivers a weak electrical current through the wires. The strength of the electrical current will be changed slowly until it is at a comfortable level for you.

Most acupuncture sessions will last about 1 hour. On the weeks that you complete the questionnaires, it will add about 15-20 minutes.

After your 6th and 12th acupuncture sessions, you will complete the same 3 questionnaires as you did at the beginning of the study.

Length of Study:

You may take part in this study for up to 28 weeks. If intolerable side effects or symptoms occur, you will be taken off study early.

End-of-Study Visit:

At the end of the study, or if you go off study early for any reason, you will have an end-of-study visit. If the doctor thinks it is needed, the following procedures will be performed within 4 weeks after your last acupuncture session:

* You will complete the same 3 questionnaires as before.
* The 4 nerve tests will be repeated in order to learn if there have been any changes in your nerve function.
* Your tongue will be checked and your heart rate will be measured.

Additional Information:

During the study, you may still receive your regular pain treatments. You should tell the study doctor if you want to change your dose or want to start any new drugs for the treatment of your neuropathy.

If you were in Group 2 or 3, after your participation on this study is complete, you may receive 3 extra acupuncture treatments.

This is an investigational study. The acupuncture needles used in this study are commercially available and FDA approved. It is considered investigational to use acupuncture to treat peripheral neuropathy related to chemotherapy.

Up to 120 patients will take part in this multicenter study. Up to 60 will be enrolled at MD Anderson.

SINF: Peripheral Neuropathy in Cancer Survivors

A Phase I-II Study of Acupuncture for the Treatment of Chronic, Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy in Cancer Survivors

Difference in scores compared from baseline to 24 treatments between the two groups with or without electrical stimulations using two-sample t-test. Difference between baseline and 24 treatments assessed in the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group (FACT/GOG)-Neurotoxicity (Ntx) subscale scores separately for each of the 2 acupuncture schedules using a paired t test.

Effect of 12 versus 24 acupuncture treatments examined for symptoms of chronic, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in cancer patients and survivors. Efficacy analysis estimated using average difference between 12-week assessment and 24-week assessment in the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group (FACT/GOG)-Neurotoxicity (Ntx) scale for each acupuncture schedule using a paired t test. Response difference examined between 12 versus 24 acupuncture treatments using analysis of variance including the two treatment schedules and the indicator of receiving electrical stimulation as the factors, and considering the interaction between the two factors.

Symptom scores of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group (FACT/GOG)-Neurotoxicity (Ntx) scale compared between the waitlist control and the acupuncture treatment groups at week 14 after randomization compared using two-sample t-test or Wilcoxon rank-sum test.

The study was designed as a prospective, multicenter, randomized, open-label, parallel-controlled clinical trial. The study population was patients with vulvar leukoplakia, and compared the efficacy and safety of AI temperature-controlled radio frequency technology and electrical stimulation in the treatment of vulvar leukoplakia. According to the research purpose, the sample size was calculated and determined to be 120 cases, and they were randomly assigned to the observation group and the control group according to the ratio of 1:1, namely 60 cases in the radio frequency observation group and 60 cases in the electric stimulation control group.

Brief intraoperative electrical stimulation of the spinal accessory nerve (ESSAN) continuously at 20 Hz, 10-15V for 60 minutes immediately following neck dissection.

No stimulation will be performed in this group, and patients will simply have the neck dissection as planned. No sham stimulation is required, as all outcome measures are performed by individuals not present in the operating room, and therefore, blinded to the treatment arm.

Electrical stimulation will be applied to the nerve using the Grass SD9 Stimulator at a frequency of 20Hz, 10-15V, for 60 minutes during the surgery. This will occur after the neck dissection has been completed, and the remainder of the surgery will continue during stimulation. The stimulation will be applied using the Grass SD9 Stimulator and the current will be conducted to the nerve using a sterile wire electrode that will be encircled around the nerve at its most proximally-exposed portion (skull base). The wire will be removed after 60 minutes of stimulation has been applied.

Introduction: Shoulder pain and dysfunction is common after oncologic neck dissection for head and neck cancer (HNC). These symptoms can hinder postoperative rehabilitation and oral hygiene, activities of daily living (ADLs), and return to work after treatment. Due to the rising incidence of Human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated oropharyngeal cancer, patients are often diagnosed in the 3rd or 4th decade of life, leaving many potential working years lost. Brief electrical stimulation (BES) is a novel technique that has been shown to enhance neuronal regeneration after injury through a brain-derived neurotrophic growth factor (BDNF)-driven molecular pathway. The aim of this study is to examine the utility of intraoperative BES in prevention of shoulder pain and dysfunction after oncologic neck dissection.

Methods: All adult patients with a new diagnosis of HNC undergoing surgery with neck dissection including Level IIb and postoperative radiotherapy will be enrolled. Patients will undergo intraoperative BES after completion of neck dissection for 60 minutes continuously at 20 Hz with an intensity of 1.5 times the motor threshold. Postoperatively, patients will be evaluated using the Constant-Murley Shoulder Score, a scale that assesses shoulder pain, activities of daily living (ADLs), strength, and range of motion. Secondary outcomes measured will include scores on the Oxford Shoulder Score, the Neck Dissection Impairment Index (NDII), and the University of Washington Quality of Life (UW-QOL) score. Primary and secondary outcomes will be assessed at 1, 2, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively. Study and placebo groups will be compared using a Mann-Whitney analysis.

This study will be conducted as a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial. Two parallel treatment groups will be examined with a 1:1 allocation: 1) brief intraoperative electrical stimulation continuously at 20 Hz at an intensity of 1.5 times the motor threshold for 60 minutes, or 2) sham/no stimulation for 60 minutes. Individuals will be allocated to treatment groups using a block randomization sequence. Participants and researchers measuring outcomes will be blinded to treatment groups. Stimulation (BES or sham) will occur intraoperatively immediately following neck dissection for 60 minutes.

Brief Intraoperative Electrical Stimulation for Prevention of Shoulder Dysfunction After Oncologic Neck Dissection (ESSAN): a Double-blinded, Randomized Control Trial

The Constant-Murley score is a 100-point scale composed of a number of individual parameters, detailing the level of shoulder pain and the ability to carry out normal daily activities of the patient. The Constant-Murley Score is a 100-point scale composed of a number of individual parameters, designed to determine functionality after shoulder treatment. It includes includes 4 subscales that assess pain, activities of daily living, strength, and range of motion (forward elevation, external rotation, abduction, and internal rotation of the shoulder). A higher score indicates higher quality of function.

The OSS is a 12-item, multi-dimensional, self-report questionnaire regarding shoulder-specific daily activity in the previous 4 weeks.

The Neck Dissection Impairment Index (NDII), is a 10-item self-report questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale for assessment of shoulder impairment after neck dissection.

This will include conduction velocity and amplitude as it relates to nerve injury during oncologic neck dissection.

This will pertain to electrophysiologic thresholds necessary to evoke a motor response from the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid, to evaluate nerve function.

This instrument will be used to asses quality of life (QOL) differences between the study and placebo groups following treatment.
