Cancer-related pain has a major adverse impact on functional status and quality of life. Recently, a Survey conducted in 2015 in 10 Asian countries showed that among cancer patients in Asian population, 86% of patients reported that their pain affected their activities of daily living, 87% their sleep, 92% their concentration and focus, and 67% excessive reliance on others. Only 34% reported a good quality of life. Effective pain management may help the patient to focus on the positive aspects of life, decreasing the focus on pain and also promote better adherence to reasonable treatment plans. Hence the emphasis is on improving the Quality of Life and not mere pain control.

This is a Prospective Observational Study. All new patients in chronic pain OPD are been administered BPI questionnaire as a standard of practice in our institute, in the language best understood by them e.g. English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali. The participants will be asked to complete it once during their first visit to the pain clinic, before the start of treatment or ongoing treatment for pain (Baseline) and then during subsequent visits (Follow up). Most chronic pain patients are advised to follow-up by one to two weeks. Patients who are willing to participate in the study will be included after obtaining an informed consent. Data will be collected from BPI, Chronic Pain Record form and EMR and will be analyzed. Demographic data, diagnosis, pain data sheet, drug treatment as well as other form of therapies will be recorded. There will be no direct communication with the patient and data of quality of life will be retrieved from pain clinic records.

The Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) long form and short form questionnaire is a validated multidimensional pain assessment tool developed by Cleeland and Ryan. It is one of the most commonly used measures for assessing both pain severity and interference with functions in adults with cancer, thereby satisfying two recommendations (assessment of pain to include both intensity and interference) set by the Initiative on Methods, Measurements, and Pain Assessment in Clinical Trials (IMMPACT) group. It is brief, self administered, easily understood and can be administered to large numbers of patients,.

It contains three questions regarding pain intensity and seven regarding pain interference that are rated on an ordinal numerical scale with anchors of 0 (no pain/interference) to 10 (maximum pain/interference). Pain intensity is measured according to the worst pain experienced in the last three days, average pain in the last three days, and current pain. Pain interference assesses how that pain has affected general activity, mood, walking ability, normal work, relations with others, sleep, and enjoyment of life. The sum of the scores of the pain intensity items represents the summed pain intensity score and the sum of the scores on the pain interference items represents the summed interference score. In addition, the patient enters his pain localization on a body drawing and can give details of his current medication.

This is a qualitative (interview) study to explore the experiences of people receiving treatment for MM and to understand what matters most to them when making treatment decisions.

People can receive many lines of treatment for multiple myeloma. We would like to understand more about the experiences of people being treated for multiple myeloma including what matters most to them when considering treatment options, how their experiences have differed with different treatments and if they have any treatment preferences. Patients at The Christie who have received five or more lines of treatment for Multiple Myeloma will be eligible to take part in this study. They will be asked to participate in an interview which should take approximately 30 minutes to an hour. During the interview they will be asked questions regarding their experiences and preference for treatment. Interviews will be conducted either in person or over the phone depending on patient preference. The interviews will be recorded by the research team using a Dictaphone and transcribed by an external transcription service called 1st Class Secretarial. The transcripts of all participant interviews will be reviewed by members of the research team and experiences will be identified and described.

Medicare-eligible (≥ or = to 65 years) patients diagnosed with stage II - III colon cancer, are at least 4 months into chemotherapy and up to 7 months post-chemotherapy.

The patient will participate in a semistructured interview conducted by a trained staff member and designed to last approximately 45 minutes. All interviews will take place at least 4 months into or up to 7 months after the end of the treatment, if possible and will be scheduled to occur at the time of the chemotherapy infusion, or at another time at the care facility when it is convenient for the patient. If the patient is not scheduled or chooses not to be at the care facility within a time frame that fits the study parameters, the patient may opt to be interviewed at another location, including the patient's home.

The purpose of this study is to learn more about the social and financial impact of colon cancer for older patients. We want to know how cancer has affected the patient financially and socially, and to know if the patient has resource needs that have gone unmet. By doing this study, we hope to learn about resources that can reduce the financial burden from cancer.

RATIONALE: Gathering health information about patients with liver cancer over time may help doctors learn more about the disease and may help the study of cancer in the future.

PURPOSE: This clinical trial is developing a national registry and blood bank of patients with liver cancer.

OBJECTIVES:

* Evaluate etiologic factors associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in different ethnic groups and in different parts of the United States by developing a national registry of HCC patients.
* Survey stage and potential treatability of HCC patients referred to Vanderbilt University Hospital.
* Establish a serum repository for registry patients with samples to be used for future studies of the pathogenesis of chronic liver disease and HCC and for developing better diagnostic tests.

OUTLINE: This is a multicenter, cross-sectional database study.

Data are collected on patients diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and at other participating hospitals or liver transplantation centers around the country for inclusion in a national registry of liver cancer patients. Registry data are collected at baseline and then every 6 months for up to 5 years. The data are derived from investigator interviews with patients and from medical chart review of routine medical care provided during the course of the study. Data are collected from all study sites and entered into a master database that includes information on patient demographics, diagnoses and staging details, treatment history, results of laboratory studies, and patient outcomes. Information derived from the registry is available to investigators at all study sites.

Patients in the registry also undergo blood collection at baseline. Blood samples are stored in a serum repository for evaluation in future studies related to liver disease, viral hepatitis, and liver cancer. A biological marker that may be analyzed is squamous cell carcinoma antigen immune complex (SCCA-IC).

PROJECTED ACCRUAL: A total of 1,500 patients will be accrued for the Vanderbilt University Medical Center study and up to 2,000 patients for the national study.

A National Registry of Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma

A descriptive analysis will be done to describe the number of patients with HCC, their underlying etiology, correlation between etiology and demographic features and the outcome of various forms of therapy. Survival analysis will be done, comparing various forms of therapy while adjusting for stage of disease.
