The control group receives routine nursing, including admission education, routine nursing of adverse reactions to chemotherapy, diet guidance for chemotherapy patients, precautions for various examinations, discharge guidance and follow-up.

Auricular point sticking therapy is performed on the basis of control group. The acupoint intervention group is established, and the research team consists of 2 graduate students, 1 graduate supervisor, 1 head nurse, 1 chief physician of traditional Chinese medicine, and 1 nursing expert. The nursing expert is responsible for the overall design of the project, and the director of traditional Chinese medicine is responsible for the selection of acupoints and the training of nurses for massage. The supervisor of graduate students and the head nurse are responsible for the overall quality control of the intervention process, while the graduate students are responsible for the preliminary and final screening of research objects, the implementation of intervention programs, the organization, coordination and recording of the entire intervention process and the collection of data.

1. Acupoint selection: Select Shenmen, spleen, stomach, liver, sympathetic, tongue, digestive system under the cortex, three focal, ear-back spleen.
2. Operation: Use 75% ethanol to disinfect auricular broad skin; To be dry, use tweezers to pick up the middle of the small square tape stuck with Wang do not line seeds, align the indentation and stick well, press gently with the finger abdomen, the strength to the patient feel acid swelling, pain and heat sense and can tolerate it.
3. Press frequency and course of treatment: it is asked to press 4 times a day, once in the morning, middle and evening before going to bed, 3-5 minutes each time, the duration of hospitalization for patients with chemotherapy is generally 3-5 days, intervention begins on the first day of chemotherapy medication, the day of discharge for patients to replace the other side of the ear acupoint, removed after 4 days of discharge. To explore the intervention effect of auricular point sticking on chemotherapy-induced taste alterations in cancer patients, and analyze its relationship with quality of life, nutritional status and psychology of patients.

Taste alteration is a common adverse reaction in patients with chemotherapy. The incidence of taste alteration varies with chemotherapy drugs, ranging from 36% to 84%, among which platinum chemotherapeutic drugs are most likely to cause severe taste alteration. The taste alteration does not pose a serious threat to the life of patients, so it is often ignored by patients and medical staff. Dysgeusia is positively correlated with the loss of appetite, which can directly lead to the loss of appetite and insufficient intake of nutrients in patients, and even stimulate patients' anxiety, psychological pain and other negative emotions. In severe cases, it can cause malnutrition, reduce the chemotherapy compliance of cancer patients, and ultimately reduce the quality of life of patients. Therefore, for patients with platinum chemotherapy, it is necessary to pay close attention to the change of taste during chemotherapy, and apply effective nursing interventions to pay attention as soon as possible, so as to improve the quality of life of patients.

Study On The Application of Auricular Point Sticking Based On Holographic Theory In Chemotherapy-related Taste Alterations In Cancer Patients

The Chinese version of the Chemotherapy-induced Taste Alteration Scale (CiTAS), was used to assess the patients' taste alterations. The scale has 18 items in three dimensions, namely taste alteration, unpleasant taste alteration, unpleasant symptoms and problems. The scale is a Like-5 scale with a minimum score of 18 and a maximum score of 90, with higher scores indicating more severe symptoms of taste alterations. The scale has been verified by research and has good reliability and validity.

With the use of the European Organization for Research on Treatment of Cancer, the most widely used guideline in clinical practice, The EORTC Quality of Life Core Questionnaire (QLQ-C30) was used to evaluate the quality of life of patients.A total of 30 items and 15 domains were included, including 5 functional domains, 9 symptom domains and 1 general health/quality of life domain. Among them, the general health status/quality of life domain was divided into 7 grades, which were calculated from 1 to 7 points according to the answer options. Other items were on a 4-point scale, and "never", "a little", "a lot" and "a lot" were scored from 1 to 4 respectively. The domain score was obtained by summing the item scores included in each domain and dividing by the number of items included, ranging from 0 to 100. A lower score indicates a better quality of life.

The Chinese version of Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used to assess the anxiety and depression level of patients. There were 14 items in total, including 7 items for anxiety and 7 items for depression. Each item was scored from 0 to 3, with a minimum score of 0 and a maximum score of 42, and the higher the score, the more serious the level of anxiety and depression.

The nutritional status of patients was evaluated according to their weight.

Single treatment of hypoglossal needle acupuncture during the chemotherapy administration: Treated points will be Jinjin (Golden Liquid/EX-HN12) left beside the lingual frenulum and Yuye (Jade Fluid/EX-HN13) right beside the lingual frenulum. Both points are treated in quick succession with immediate removal of the needle.

Single treatment of hypoglossal sham acupuncture uring the chemotherapy administration: Treated points will be 1 to 1.5 cun (a cun is defined as the width of the patient's thumb at the knuckle) beside the verum acupuncture points Jinjin and Yuye using the dull side of the needle.

This randomized controlled trial aims to investigate hypoglossal acupuncture in comparison to sham acupuncture and standard medical treatment (dietary recommendations) in the treatment of dysgeusia in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Taste disorders are frequent side effects in patients undergoing chemotherapy (CTX). Dysguesia has prevalence rates of 16% to 1000% during CTX with sometimes also persistent courses. Impact of dysguesia on appetite, body weight as well as health-related quality of life was shown. Until now, evidence for adequate treatment options is limited to specific diary recommendations. Acupuncture in the treatment of side effects of chemotherapy was investigated for nausea and xerostomia, but not for dysguesia. Therefore, this randomized controlled trial aims to investigate hypoglossal acupuncture in comparison to sham acupuncture and standard medical treatment (dietary recommendations) in the treatment of dysgeusia in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

One of the most widely used treatments for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the combination of paclitaxel-cisplatin. These drugs may contribute to taste alterations like dysgeusia. Which alters the feeding of cancer patients, contributing to the anorexia, weight loss and malnutrition, which leads to a prognostic impact in a lower patient response to chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgical treatment as well as increased toxic effects, impacting treatment discontinuation and therefore, morbidity and survival of patients. The objective of this study is to describe the threshold of perception and recognition of basic tastes in patients with NSCLC before treatment with platin and paclitaxel-based chemotherapy and after the second cycle, and analyze the effect in the developement of dysgeusia, as well as the association between these and the nutritional status and quality of life.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of death from malignancies in our country. It was recently reported to induce 11.5% of cancer deaths in Mexico, with a rate of 6.5 per 100 000 people.

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) accounts for 80% of all lung cancer cases. Less than 20% has resectable disease and in the National Cancer Institute of Mexico exclusively less than 2%, representing chemotherapy the standard of care in these patients.

One of the most widely used drug combinations is paclitaxel-cisplatin. It has been reported a prevalence of malnutrition in 60 to 79% in this type of cancer, being the major contributor to morbidity and mortality. The etiology resides both in the systemic effects of the tumor and toxic effects of treatment as low levels hematologic, nausea, vomiting, mucositis, anorexia, dysgeusia, among others.

Weight loss has a strong impact on the response to chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery, as well as increased toxic effects impacting the discontinuation of treatment and is considered an independent predictor of survival for most patients with NSCLC. Is estimated that over 20% of cancer patients the cause of death are inanition effects.

Among the most frequent symptoms in advanced unresectable cancer or its treatment that may affect food intake and hence nutritional status, are the early satiety and dysgeusia (61% and 46% respectively). As are difficult to change early satiety, dysgeusia is a field for selecting strategies in its management.

The dysgeusia is defined as a change in taste that can manifest as a distortion of taste, lack of taste (ageusia), decreased sensitivity of perception (hypogeusia) or increased sensitivity to some or all flavors (hypergeusia).

The development of dysgeusia have clinical significance in the etiology of cancer anorexia because it can affect eating habits and contribute to weight loss or malnutrition and consequently affect the quality of life.

The chemotherapy may contribute to dysgeusia. It has reported a prevalence of 56.3% of Dysgeusia in cancer patients under this type of treatment. As well, zinc deficiency has been associated with the hypogeusia, this metal to be involved at various levels in the physiology of the role of taste at various levels of cell several organization.

Several studies have linked consumption dysgeusia with energy and macronutrients, weight loss, lack of appetite and early satiety.

The type of tumor, stage, chemotherapy regimen and serum zinc levels are associated with dysgeusia, but the exact mechanism underlining these disturbances are not known at totality. No known if chemotherapy or before this is presented dysgeusia. In addition there are few studies in this area and with methodological weaknesses, among which include heterogeneous population (patients with a diagnosis of malignancy of breast, lung, prostate, multiple myeloma and lymphoma), different patterns of treatment(different chemotherapy drugs, radiotherapy schedules and combination of both forms of measurement of dysgeusia, besides the absence of dysgeusia baseline evaluation before chemotherapy to establish a causal association between chemotherapy and taste alteration.

Also, is unknown if dysgeusia impact on body composition determined by bioelectrical impedance, phase angle in and consumption of micronutrients (iron, sodium, zinc, B6, B12).

That's why is necessary to continue studying this phenomenon to develop a better understanding of the nature, frequency, severity and duration of dysgeusia in patients with advanced lung cancer, the role that zinc exerts in its development and its impact on consumption food, anthropometric parameters and quality of life in such patients before and after chemotherapy in the same regimen of chemotherapy.

We invited to participate 72 patients with NSCLC newly diagnosed, but only 40 patients completed their baseline evaluation and their follow up after two cycles of chemotherapy using paclitaxel (175 mg/m2) and cisplatin (75 mg/m2). The main reason of exclusion was death followed by not returning to the institution.

For the experiment group, the clinician will be providing participant with daily 0.4 gram mBerry tablets (total of 112 tablets) to consume twice a day (for two meals) over an 8-week period. The participant will be provided with a log form to track mBerry use for the two meals each day for the 8-week period. They will be requested to bring log to each of the clinical visits which include bi-weekly taste assessments.

The control group will not be given a placebo. The control group will come to clinic for bi-weekly taste assessments.

Intervention for dysgeusia in head and neck cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. This research proposal aims to investigate potential benefits of mBerry in improving quality of life and nutritional outcome in head and neck cancer patients' post-radiation therapy. Our hypothesis is that cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy will benefit from use of miracle berry in treatment of dysgeusia.

Dysgeusia, characterized by altered taste, is a common side effect of radiation used in oropharyngeal cancer treatment. Radiation affects taste buds, leading to issues like loss of appetite, malnutrition, dependence on feeding tubes, dysphagia, and impacts social and overall quality of life. Patients often report bitter, metallic or no taste with food after radiation. Miracle berries, known for interacting with sweet taste receptors, could potentially transform acidic tastes into sweet ones.

The aim is to explore mBerry's potential in alleviating dysgeusia, aiding patients in achieving better nutritional status and quality of life.This study includes the use of mBerry tablets, which contain protein within the miracle berry called miraculin, for the treatment of radiation-induced dysgeusia. mBerry is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of radiation-induced dysgeusia. It is being used as part of this research study to find out if mBerry tablets improve taste outcomes among head and neck cancer patients after radiation therapy.

Dislike Slightly: Assigned a value of 2, indicating mild disliking. Neither Like nor Dislike: Assigned a value of 3, representing a neutral response.

Like Slightly: Assigned a value of 4, indicating mild liking. Like Very Much: Assigned a value of 5, representing strong liking. The higher the number scored indicates the participants enjoyed the taste vs the lower the number participant liked the taste less.

Perceived taste scale- Self- administered questionnaire of 18 items evaluated on a five-point. Using a Likert scale 1-5 (where 1 = no difficulty or absence of the disturbance and 5 = maximum difficulty or disturbance). Higher scores indicate more severe taste alterations.

Patient questionaire on swallow function. Scored on a scale score from 0 to 100. Lower the scores indicate a greater impact of dysphagia on the patients quality of life.

Level of least restrictive diet- the higher the number the participant is able to eat by mouth the lesser of number the patient might be reliable on a feeding tube
