1. Chanting Om

   1. Sharp deep inhalation through nostrils
   2. Slow exhalation through mouth while chanting Om. At this step the subjects will perform a slow and complete exhalation.

   Repeat for 10 min. During the whole period of chanting, the subjects keep their eyes closed.
2. Yogic Breathing:

   1. Check which of the two nostrils exhibit free flow of air. For the explanation purpose the nostril with free flow of air is treated as Nostril 1 and the other one as Nostril 2.
   2. Close Nostril 2 and inhale a sharp deep breath through Nostril 1 and then close both the nostrils so no inhaled air escapes. Air should not escape through mouth either. This inhalation step should take about 4 seconds.
   3. Hold breath in this position for about 16 seconds.
   4. Open Nostril 2 and exhale for about 8 seconds. Complete exhalation is required. Abdomen will slowly curve-in as the subject exhales. This is normal and encouraged. No air should leak through the Nostril 1 or mouth.
   5. Go to step a).

The participants will read a text of their choice for 20 minutes.

Yogic Breathing

The participants will read a text of their choice for 20 minutes in a one-on-one session with the Yoga Instructor.

Our aim is to analyze two ancient Tamil practices (chanting and breathing exercise) if they are capable of stimulating saliva containing agents that can be beneficial to the nervous system. Our study subjects will perform Tamil chanting and Tamil breathing exercise. Saliva will be collected before, during and after the exercises. We will quantify the specific proteins in these salivary samples. The results will benefit further studies in various patient populations.

Nerve growth factor will be quantified by ELISA and Western blotting.

Western blotting, Multiplex ELISA and Lipidomic analysis will be conducted in saliva samples to determine changes in molecular constituents before and after study exercise.

NGF group

Cerebral radiation necrosis (CRN) is a well-documented late complication of radiation therapy for cancers, and may have a devastating effect on the patient's quality of life (QOL). However,CRN was once regarded as a progressive and irreversible disease, no standard therapy has been suggested for CRN. In our clinical practice, we have used nerve growth factor(NGF) to treat CRN, and found that GM1 can successfully reverse CRN. A case report has been published in Journal of Clinical Oncology (JCO) in 2011. So we carried out this prospective study to test the efficacy of NGF for CRN.

The primary objective of this study is to determine whether the administration of tanezumab, an anti-nerve growth factor (NGF) antibody, improves pain relief in schwannomatosis patients receiving background non-NSAID therapy.

Schwannomatosis is characterized by the predisposition to develop multiple schwannomas and, less commonly, meningiomas. Pain is the most frequent symptom reported by these patients, with 68% experiencing chronic pain.

The investigators propose to test the efficacy and tolerability of tanezumab as a treatment for schwannomatosis patients with chronic pain who have had inadequate pain relief in a randomized, placebo-controlled trial, which could form the basis of a larger, randomized controlled trial in the future.

The study is designed with a total duration of 281 days (40 weeks) and will consist of four periods: Pre-treatment, Double-Blind Treatment, Single Arm Treatment, and 24-Week Safety Follow-up. The Pre-Treatment Period lasting up to 30 days, followed by a Double-Blind Treatment Period lasting up to 8 weeks, followed by a Single Arm Treatment Period lasting up to 8 weeks, and a 24-Week Safety Follow-Up Period ending with the End of Study Visit at Week 40.
