Study Purpose and Content: The research aims to investigate the nutritional status and trends in cancer patients at different stages of chemoradiotherapy in Shaanxi Province.

Registry Procedures: The study will recruit patients from 20 hospitals across the province, tracking their nutritional status, disease condition, and quality of life through various stages of treatment.

Quality Control: Nutritional assessments are to be conducted at specific intervals, and all research staff are required to undergo training for consistency in data collection and patient evaluation.

Ethical Considerations: The study ensures informed consent from participants and confidentiality of personal information, with approval from the ethics committee of Xi'an Jiaotong University Medical College.

Data Collection and Analysis: Data will be gathered through detailed patient surveys, laboratory tests, and physical measurements, with subsequent analysis to establish a predictive model for cancer patient survival based on nutritional indicators.

The study intends to share IPD with other researchers for advancing scientific understanding and improving patient care. The shared data will include anonymized participant information, such as demographic details, clinical outcomes, and treatment responses. The data will be stripped of any identifiers to ensure participant confidentiality.

The accuracy of the height was 0.5cm, and this value should be noted if there was ascites, systemic edema, and huge tumors.

Referrals to onsite food pantry or emergency food boxes from partner pantry if onsite pantry is not open by 2024.

Participants will receive up to 12 nutritious no-prep meals per month (three meals per week) for three-months.

Participants will receive $75 vouchers each month for three-months.

Food insecurity impacts 1 in 8 people in the United States and 1 in 4 people receiving cancer treatment. Food insecurity is associated with poor dietary quality, adverse health conditions (e.g., Type 2 diabetes, overweight and obesity, hypertension), and worse cancer treatment outcomes. To effectively address food insecurity among people with cancer, screening and effective response programs are needed.

The Food to Overcome Disparities (FOOD) program screens breast cancer patients for food insecurity and refers people who screen positive to 11 clinic pantries across New York City. In addition to clinic referrals, researchers have found the addition of monthly grocery vouchers or home grocery delivery to be even more effective at improving treatment completion rates than pantry access alone. Another innovative food security strategy, nutritious no-prep, ready-to-eat meals may also be helpful for patients given that no-prep meals reduce the time and physical demand of food preparation.

Nutritious no-prep, ready-to-eat meals have been positively associated with improvements in healthy eating index (HEI) scores, fewer instances of hypoglycemia, and improved quality of life among people with food insecurity that have diabetes, but has yet to be tested among patients with cancer. People receiving cancer treatment, such as infusion services, often report fatigue and other barriers to food preparation, which make no-prep, ready-to-eat meals another potential solution to cancer-specific challenges to healthy eating.

In the present study the investigators will test which evidence-based strategies are most effective and well-liked by patients and will inform the development of a comprehensive food security response program at the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center.

In the proposed study, the study team will screen infusion patients for food insecurity and refer those who screen positive to enroll in a randomized controlled trial where participants will receive one of three evidence-based food security programs: 1) Pantry only - Referrals to onsite food pantry or emergency food boxes if the onsite pantry is not open by 2024, 2) Pantry plus nutritious no-prep, ready-to-eat meals, or 3) Pantry plus $75 grocery vouchers for three-months. The study team will assess improvements in patient food security, diet quality, satisfaction, and wellbeing over time. Results of this pilot will inform the design of a food security response program for patients.

In the proposed study, infusion patients that screen positve for food insecurity that enroll in the study will be randomized to receive one of three evidence-based food security programs: 1) Pantry only - Referrals to an onsite food pantry or receipt of emergency food boxes if the onsite pantry is not open by 2024, 2) Pantry + nutritious no-prep, ready-to-eat meals, or 3) Pantry + $75 grocery vouchers for three-months.

It is not possible to mask staff or participants in this trial.

Abbreviated Diet History Questionnaire III (DHQ-III) is a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) that will be used to calculate a Healthy Eating Index score with a minimum value of 0 indicating poor dietary quality and a maximum value of 100 indicating high dietary quality.

6-item United States Department of Agriculture Food Security Screener (USDA); questionnaire; raw score 0-1-High or marginal food security, 2-4-Low food security, 5-6-Very low food security.

Satisfaction with clinical experience and interventions; two-items from the HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) Survey will be used to measure patient satisfaction with the clinical experience - items 21 \& 22 on Overall Rating of Hospital (Q21) and Willingness to Recommend Hospital (Q22) - minimum = 0 (poorer quality care), maximum = 4 (higher quality care).

The World Health Organisation-Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5), 5-items with 5 response options each, 0 to 25, 0 respresents worst possible quality of life and 25 represents best possible quality of life.

This projects aims to characterize dietary habits and nutrition quality of pro-vegetarian diets as compared to omnivorous diets. It also aims to stablish gut microbial and metabolit profiles of this dietary pattern, in order to elucidate the role of plant-based diets in cancer prevention and treatment.

Plant-based foods (fruits, vegetables, cereals, nuts and seeds, legumes, and vegetable oils) are the main source of fiber and other bioactive compounds in the diet. Plant-based diets are therefore assumed to prevent mortality and the ocurrence of chronic diseases including cancer. However, evidence on this issue is still scarce, and the mechanisms and drivers of their potential health benefits are also only partially known.

The main objectices of this project are:

1. To develop and validate dietary assessment methods for the vegetarian population
2. To assess dietary habits and consumer beliefs of vegetarians with respect to omnivores, considering different types of vegetarian diets
3. To identify a gut microbiota signature related to plant-based diets from subgroups of subjects following a plant-based diet foods (vegans, lacto-vegetarians, ..., and pro-vegetarians) and omnivorous subjects (non-plant-based diets), from stool metagenomic sequencing.
4. To relate this signature with metabolites present in faeces (related to the presence of certain microbial species) and in urine to improve the predictive capacity of the microbial signature of vegetable diets.
5. Validate the signature using independent study populations, and including colorectal and breast cancer survivors as another study target.

Pro-Vegetarian Diets, Microbial/Metabolite Profiles and Cancer

Characterizacion of Pro-VEgetarian Diets: Diet Quality and Nutrition, MIcrobial/Metabolite Profiles and Implications in CAncer (MIVECA Study)

Dietary habits will be taken by an online specific Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) for Spanish population, including novel vegetarian foods to evaluate vegetarian food consumption. The data analysis will be taken at baseline outcome.

To validated dietary assessment method, two 24-Hour-Recalls in two non-consecutive days will be used, as well as the analysis of specific vegetarian diet metabolites in urine and stool samples using Ultra performance liquid chromatography - tandem mass spectrometer (UPLC-MS/MS). The data analysis will be taken at baseline. We have estimated that 200 subjects will be sufficient to detect, with a 95% confidence and power of 90%, correlation coefficients greater than rho=0.2.

Preoperative evaluation of nutritional status in geriatric patients with lung cancer and implementation of these practices in elective patients are very important in terms of reducing postoperative complications and accelerating hospital discharge. For this purpose, many nutritional assessments and measurements are used. Our aim in this study was to evaluate the relationship between preoperative nutritional status and postoperative pulmonary complications in patients undergoing thoracic surgery for geriatric lung cancer.

Evaluation of the Effect of Preoperative Nutritional Risk Parameters on Postoperative Pulmonary Complications in Geriatric Patients Who Underwent Lung Resection for Malignancy, a Prospective Observational Study

FFMI is an abbreviation for lean mass index. It defines the amount of your muscle mass relative to height and weight. The FFMI is part of the well-known and similar BMI family of body indexes. The effect of FFMI values on postoperative patient stay, intensive care unit stay, complications and postoperative mobilization time in lung cancer patients will be evaluated. Each patient will be evaluated by measuring the preoperative FFMI value 24 hours before.

BMI is a measurement of a person's leanness or corpulence based on their height and weight, and is intended to quantify tissue mass. The effect of BMI values on postoperative patient stay, intensive care unit stay, complications and postoperative mobilization time in lung cancer patients will be evaluated. Each patient will be evaluated by measuring the preoperative BMI value 24 hours before.
