Head and Neck Neoplasms

Observational group

The aim of this study is to evaluate the postoperative changes after a major surgery in head and neck cancer patients. Each participant will be evaluated three times: (1) One day before surgery; (2) one month postoperative and (3) three months postoperative. Assessments included blood pressure, anthropometric measurements, physical measurements and questionnaires on quality of life, nutritional status and cancer symptoms.

Postoperative Changes in Head and Neck Cancer Patients Undergoing Surgery

Functional exercise capacity is measured by a 6-minute walk test

Muscle fatigability is measured using a Cybex dynamometer

Flexibility is measured by Toe touch test

Flexibility is measured by sit and reach test

Upper body strength and endurance are measured by the 30-second arm curl test

Hand grip strength test is performed using a Jamar® dynamometer

Health-related quality of life is evaluated with the version 4 of the University of Washington head and neck cancer questionnaire

Common symptom batteries is measured by the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (revised version) questionnaire

Nutritional status is measured with the Short Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire

Resting blood pressure is measured using the M6 Comfort automatic blood pressure monitor

Weight (kg) is measured by using a bioelectrical impedance analysis

Fat body mass (%) is measured by using a bioelectrical impedance analysis

Waist circumference is measured with a non-elastic tape measure

The goal of this observational study is to apply the CNN-based DL method to extract the three-dimensional spatial information of IMRT dose distribution to predict the occurrence probability of serious radiotherapy and chemotherapy induced oral mucositis(SRCOM), and compare with a model based on dosimetry, NTCP or doseomics to improve the prediction accuracy of SRCOM, thus guiding the clinical planning design, reducing the occurrence probability of OM, and may have the potential value of preventing serious complications and improving the quality of life in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

A deep learning based system to calculate the proportion of Boston Bowel Prep Scale (BBPS) score of 0-1 during withdrawal phase has been constructed previously. This multi-center study is going to perform a prospective observational study to validate the threshold of the adequate proportion.

Inadequate bowel preparation is insufficient for identification of polyps greater than 5 mm. However, bowel preparation assessment involved subjectivity and uncertainty. We constructed a deep learning based system to calculate the proportion of Boston Bowel Prep Scale (BBPS) score of 0-1 during withdrawal phase and performed a prospective observational study to validate the threshold of the adequate proportion.The multi-center study is aimed to verify the extrapolation and robustness of the scoring threshold based on artificial intelligence intestinal cleanliness evaluation system explored in the early stage, and propose a more accurate and quantifiable threshold for evaluating the eligibility of intestinal preparation.
