When connecting chemotherapy products, a PCT dosage will be made. The results of dosage won't be communicated to the clinician responsible for the patient. Patient's care will then be identical to any other chemotherapy treated patient

Treatment of a stage IV NSCLC is based on chemotherapy and requires before each session to check clinically, biologically and radiologically absence of infection. This biological evaluation is based on the CRP rate. Lots of infections may occur in this situation and could reduce by three the patient's life duration. However it is very important to make as early as possible a correct diagnosis of infection. CRP rate is classically higher for those patients even without any infection. In comparison with CRP, Procalcitonin (PCT) is well-known for its better sensibility and specificity for the infection diagnosis but has never been study in case of active cancer. The aim of this study is to evaluate the Procalcitonin basal rate for those patients suffering from NSCLC. It could be a simple and reliable method to use. So the investigators decided to include each new patient with NSCLC stage IV coming for his first-line chemotherapy without any infection sign, and to realize a Procalcitonin dosage before the start of the treatment. This sample will be analyzed at the chemical laboratory and the result will not be communicated to the patient physician. A new clinical evaluation will be realized either at the hospital or by phone at day 7 to search any sign of infection. In absence of infection, patient will be reevaluated at day 14, 21 and 30. In case of infection, a new Procalcitonin (and CRP) dosage will be performed.

To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of procalcitonin as an early predictor of infection after radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer.

From June 2018 to May 2019, consecutive eligible patients who underwent surgery for gastric cancer in the Department of Gastroduodenal and Pancreatic Surgery, Hunan Cancer Hospital and the treatment group of Professor Kai-xiong Tao in the Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College were invited to participate in the study. After surgery, routine blood test were measured morning on post-operative day (POD) 1, 3, 5, and 7, and serum level of procalcitonin was measured morning on POD 3 and 5.

The primary outcome of the present study was the accuracy of white blood cell (WBC) and neutrophil count, the neutrophil to WBC ratio (N%) and procalcitonin to detect post-operative infection (including intra-abdominal infection (IAI), surgical site infections (SSIs), pneumonia, urinary tract infection, catheter-related infection, and sepsis not specified) within 30 days after surgery. The main secondary outcome was their ability to detect any post-operative complications (such as intestinal obstruction, bleeding, ascites, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events) within 30 days after surgery. Other secondary outcomes were the choice of the best timing to measure each inflammatory marker, the choice of a clinically meaningful cut-off value for the most accurate marker.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of procalcitonin test for differentiation of the cause of pneumonia in patients with cancer.

Serum procalcitonin test is currently used as the biomarker for bacterial infection. Especially, procalcitonin test has been reported to be helpful in differentiating bacterial pneumonia from viral pneumonia, acute exacerbations of interstitial pneumonitis or chronic obstructive lung disease. However, it is not known whether procalcitonin test can help distinguish bacterial pneumonia from non-bacterial pneumonia such as radiation pneumonitis or chemotherapy-induced pneumonitis in patients with cancer.

The aim of this prospective cohort study is to observe the clinical benefits of procalcitonin test for differentiation of the cause of pneumonia in patients with cancer.

Infections pose a serious threat to cancer patients in chemotherapy. Prompt diagnosis and treatment is of paramount importance as infections may be life-threatening in immune-compromised individuals. Traditionally, the C-reactive protein (CRP) has been used as a marker of infection. However, the CRP is also often elevated in cancer patients and as a marker CRP may be unreliable in cancer patients. Other markers for infection includes procalcitonin which has been showed to be of some value for the diagnose of bacterial infections.

This study examines procalcitonin as a potential marker of bacterial infection in cancer patients.

Purpose of the study:

Is pro calcitonin a marker for bacterial infection in cancer patients? Is pro calcitonin better than C-reactive-protein to identify cancer patients with a bacterial infection?

Background:

Infections, in particular bacterial, pose a major threat to cancer patients as treatment related immuno-suppression and general weakness increase risk and severity of infections. Prompt identification of patients with a bacterial infection is necessary. Traditionally, fever, leucocytosis and elevated c-reactive protein (CRP) have been used in the evaluation in patients with suspected infection. How-ever, fever may be reduced by analgesics and steroids, leucocytes may be decreased due to anticancer therapy and CRP is in some cases elevated by the cancer disease as such. The diagnosis of bacterial infection is thus more difficult in cancer patients. Recently, pro-calcitonin (PCT) (her dækker maja's godt)

Design of the study:

Two groups will be included in this study:

Group I includes patients in anti-cancer therapy including chemo and radiotherapy, targeted treatment and radiotherapy but not hormone treatment, and without any sign of infection defined as temperature \< 38 C and no focal symptoms of infections. Vital signs are noted and blood tests for haematology, CPR and PCT are drawn. Details about cancer type, stage, treatment history of infections less than 1 month prior and co-morbidity are registered. Data from this cohort will be used to assess median CRP and PCT among non-infected cancer patients. Forty patients will be included.

Group II includes patients in anti-cancer therapy including chemo and radiotherapy, targeted treatment and radiotherapy but not hormone treatment, who is hospitalized with suspected infection (temp\> 38 last 24 hours). At the time of hospitalization, vital signs are noted and blood tests for haematology, CPR and PCT are drawn. Details about cancer type, stage, treatment history of infections less than 1 month prior and co-morbidity are registered. All hospitals records are reviewed after discharge to determine if a certain diagnosis of infection (positive bacteriology), probable infection (negative bacteriology but clinical course consistent with bacterial infection) or non infection was made. Data from this cohort will be used to assess the role of CRP and PCT in prediction of bacterial infection. Forty patients will be included in this study.

This group is based on the type of histopathology and MRI images that lead to a meningioma type brain tumor.

After grouping, blood serum samples was collected to check the value of CRP, procalcitonin and NLR. The data were entered in a table and then compared with values from other types of brain tumors.

This study is a case controlled analytical study that analyzes the relationship between levels of inflammatory markers with the type of brain tumor. Samples of 35 people were then categorized according to the variables above and analyzing to measure its significance

This study is a case controlled analytical study to find the relationship between levels of inflammatory markers in patients with brain tumors. Samples were collected from patients at Haji Adam Malik Hospital in Medan, then the patient's blood serum was taken to be checked for these variables. Sample collection began in March - September 2020. The sample obtained was 35 people who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Inclusion criteria:

1. Willing to be a sample
2. Complete medical records
3. Head scan and head contrast MRI have been performed to confirm the patient's diagnosis with a brain tumor

Exclusion criteria:

1. The patient's age is over 70 years
2. Patients with high comorbidities such as kidney failure, heart disease, diabetes, and others
3. Patients with a history of brain tumor surgery or previous brain tumor treatment
