Patients who did not experience any postoperative complications within 90 days.

Hand grip strength will be measured using a hand dynamometer. Research has demonstrated that hand grip strength is correlated with muscle strength in the upper extremities, as well as overall body and pulmonary muscle strength.

Spirometry is a physiological test that measures the ability to inhale and exhale air relative to time. Spirometry is a diagnostic test of several common respiratory disperses such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is also instrumental in monitoring the progression of various respiratory disorders. The main results of spirometry are forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume exhaled in the first second (FEV1), and the FEV1/FVC ratio. Pulmonary Function Test analysis values (FEV1, FVC and FEV1 /FVC) will be used.

The modified frailty index is a valuable preoperative risk assessment tool that can be used to assess the risk of both morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing surgery. It is calculated based on 11 parameters.

The study will take place at SBÜ Ankara Atatürk Sanatorium Training and Research Hospital and will include 100 patients over the age of 40 who are scheduled for lung malignancy surgery after 01 April 2024. Informed consent will be obtained from all patients, who will be assigned a number from 1 to 100.

For patients over 40 years of age who are scheduled to undergo lung malignancy resection surgery, demographic data including age, gender, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), diagnosis, comorbidities, and ASA (American Society of Anaesthesiologist) score will be recorded. In addition, hand grip strength measurement, pulmonary function test, and modified frailty index (a scoring system that includes 11 parameters) will be recorded prior to surgery. Intraoperative and postoperative complications will be documented. The duration of the patient's stay in the intensive care unit, chest tube removal, length of hospital stay, and postoperative complications will also be recorded. A follow-up call will be made to the patient by the responsible researcher 90 days after the operation to inquire about any complications that may have developed within that time frame.

The study aims to investigate the relationship between preoperative hand grip strength measurement, pulmonary function test analysis (PFT), and modified frailty index with the duration of intensive care unit stay, chest tube withdrawal time, hospital stay, and postoperative complications in patients undergoing lung resection due to malignancy.

Quality of Life

Patients undergo traditional medical treatment, participate in yoga comprising basic postures and breathing exercises 3-4 times per week, and attend yoga class once weekly over 30-60 minutes for 12 weeks.

Patients undergo traditional medical treatment and participate in emotional support group therapy with a chaplain to work on mind-body therapies comprising guided imagery and spirituality once weekly for 12 weeks.

This is a 44-item self-report instrument which measures multidimensional HRQOL. There are 5 sections dealing with physical, family, emotional, and functional well-being and their relationship with the doctor. There are nine questions in a sixth subscale that are specific to lung cancer (LSC), including shortness of breath, cough, etc. The TOI is the sum of the scores on the LCS and the physical well-being and functional well-being subscales of the FACT-L scale. The FACT-L has been shown to be reliable and valid and sensitive. (Cella, Bonomi, Lloyd, DS, Kaplan, \& Bonomi, 1995). The instrument has been used with patients with lung cancer in the Massey Cancer Center.

The pulmonary function test includes forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR). Use of a digital spirometer provides an objective and reliable measure of the patient's vital capacity.

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the effects of yoga (including breathing exercises) on the quality of life in patients, diagnosed and undergoing standard treatments for non-small cell lung cancer.

This clinical trial studies yoga in improving quality of life in patients with non-small cell lung cancer undergoing treatment. Yoga may help improve quality of life and pulmonary functional capacity in patients with non-small cell lung cancer.

The Effect of Yoga and Exercise on the Quality of Life of Patients With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

To measure health related quality of life (HRQOL), the TOI will be used,sum of the scores on the Lung Cancer Subscales (LCS) and the physical well-being and functional well-being subscales of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - Lung (FACT-L) scale. Frequencies, means and standard deviations of the patient characteristics will be compared between groups at baseline to assess the success of the randomization, and whether any baseline values need to be controlled for in analysis. Differences between groups in the change in outcome scores on the FACT-L, LSC, and TOI will be assessed using analysis of covariance, where covariates will include the stratification variable as well as any variables found to differ between groups at baseline.

Objective pulmonary function will be measured on a 3 measure spirometer ((FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR)). Since there are 3 measures of pulmonary function, the two groups will be compared using mixed model methods.

The proposed study is a phase II clinical trial of TNFR:Fc therapy in a segmental allergen bronchoprovocation model of atopic asthma. The goal of this study is to assess whether inhibition of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) bioactivity can attenuate airway inflammation in mild-to-moderate allergic asthmatics. This protocol will utilize a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial design. TNF bioactivity will be inhibited via systemic administration (e.g., subcutaneous injection) of a dimeric fusion protein consisting of the extracellular ligand binding domain of the 75-kilodalton TNF receptor linked to the Fc portion of human IgG1 (TNFR:Fc, Immunex). The data generated by this study will address the utility of anti-TNF therapy for patients with asthma.

This research trial studies the long term follow-up for early detection of lung cancer in current or former smokers. Following up on smokers by collecting and analyzing specimens in the laboratory, performing chest computed tomography (CT) scans, as well as reviewing medical records may help doctors detect lung cancer at an earlier stage.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

I. To provide screening for lung cancer in an underserved and high risk population for lung cancer.

II. To collect clinical and demographic information and research bio specimens prospectively on high risk individuals.

III. To analyze the association between suspected lung cancer risk factors and outcomes such as pre-malignant lesions and diagnosis of lung cancer.

IV. To identify and validate biomarkers that are associated with lung cancer risk factors and premalignant lesions.

V. To assess the association between patient characteristics and test results to the genetic and histological characteristics of lung preinvasive lesions and cancers.

VI. To describe this high-risk cohort and to identify the patients eligible for future clinical trials (e.g. chemoprevention).

This study evaluates how well the heart, lungs, and muscles are working individually, and how these systems are working together in transplant survivors. Information collected in this study may help doctors to understand why hematopoietic stem cell transplant survivors are at higher risk for developing cardiovascular disease.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

I. Evaluate cardiovascular reserve capacity, as measured by peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak), in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) survivors.

II. Define the determinants of VO2peak impairment in HCT survivors.

OUTLINE:

Patients undergo echocardiogram to assess cardiac function and mechanics, cardiopulmonary exercise test, pulmonary function test, musculoskeletal ultrasound, bioelectrical impedance analysis to measure total lean body mass and percent body fat), physical function tests, and collection of blood samples within 45 days from the start of conditioning therapy, and at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years post-transplant.

Cardiovascular Reserve Evaluation in Survivors of Transplantation (CREST)

We will measure initial VO2peak in patients prior to HCT and its post-HCT trajectory over time; compare VO2peak in HCT survivors at baseline (pre-HCT), 6m, 1Y, and 2Y post-HCT to established age- and sex-normative data; and define the association between VO2peak and self-reported health-related quality of life (HRQOL) at baseline/over time.

We will use Generalized Estimating Equation(GEE) and generalized linear models to examine the correlation between VO2peak and measures of:

1. cardiac (left ventricular function/ contractility \[systolic, diastolic, cardiac output, strain\], ventricular-arterial (VA) coupling, arterial elastance);
2. pulmonary (obstructive, restrictive lung disease, diffusion capacity);
3. musculoskeletal (body composition \[% lean muscle mass\], muscle quality, two minute step in place test, 30 second sit to stand test, timed up and go); and
4. hematologic function, adjusting for potential confounding variables (e.g. age, sex) and time since HCT.
