The purpose of this study is to compare effects of statins (simvastatin) and metformin on clinical (menstrual cycle, excessive hair, skin problems), endocrine (androgens), metabolic (lipids, markers of systemic inflammation), and endothelial function parameters in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Patients have completed at least 5 years and not more than 7 years of continued treatment with tamoxifen (20 mg/day). Tamoxifen could have been discontinued up to 6 months prior to study entry.

The ATENA phase III randomized parallel-group multicenter trial is designed to compare 5 years of adjuvant exemestane versus 5 years of observation in postmenopausal women with operable breast cancer who have received 5-7 years of adjuvant tamoxifen. The primary endpoint for the core protocol is disease-free survival (DFS). Exemestane treatment is planned for 5 years unless disease relapse or excessive toxicity is documented, the patient refuses further treatment or any new anti-cancer therapy is initiated.

* Patients must have completed at least 5 years and not more than 7 years of continued treatment with tamoxifen (20 mg/day), while tamoxifen could have been discontinued up to 6 months prior to study entry.
* A substudy (ATENA lipid substudy)is designed to evaluate changes in the patients' serum lipid profile during study treatment.

Newly diagnosed, non-metastatic, hormone-receptor positive breast cancer patients, who have undergone lumpectomy, have been advised to not require chemotherapy, but will need to undergo radiation therapy and will be initiating therapy with anastrazole.

Prolactin is suggested to influence insulin resistance, but scarce data is available on the metabolic profile of patients with prolactinoma.

The purpose of the protocol was to evaluate cardiovascular disease risk factors in women with prolactinoma treated with dopamine agonists and to study the influence of disease control and anthropometry on their metabolic profile.

A cross-sectional study was performed in non-obese premenopausal women with prolactinoma treated with dopamine agonists evaluated regarding glucose, insulin, Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA), lipid profile, C reactive protein (CRP), body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, prolactin, estradiol, testosterone, and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). They were compared with control women of similar age and BMI distribution.

Previous studies have shown differences in the effects of different endocrine drugs on blood lipids in breast cancer, and dyslipidaemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and it has been previously reported that the leading cause of death in postmenopausal patients with breast cancer is cardiovascular disease, but the effects of endocrine drug therapy on blood lipids in young breast cancer patients (age ≤40) are not clear. Previously, our group conducted a preliminary retrospective analysis of young patients on endocrine therapy and found that dyslipidaemia was also a common adverse effect of treatment in young breast cancer patients; therefore, dyslipidaemia induced by antineoplastic therapy not only occurs in postmenopausal patients, but is also prevalent in premenopausal and even younger patients. Therefore, this study intends to evaluate the effects of different treatment regimens on lipids in early-stage young breast cancer patients and to explore the optimal timing of lipid-lowering drug interventions to provide a basis for clinical practice.

Patients who underwent surgery at the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Peaking University People's Hospital, Jiangsu Cancer Hospital, and Beijing Haidian Hospital were enrolled with the following criteria: 1) pathologically confirmed lung cancer; 2) no history of other malignancies; 3) no anti-cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, etc.) before surgery. Plasma samples were collected before surgery and plasma lipids were detected by mass spectrometry. Pathological diagnosis and clinical characteristics of enrolled participants were retrieved.

Plasma lipids were detected by an Ultimate 3000 ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) system coupled with Q-Exactive MS (Thermo Scientific) . Then a detection model was built based on plasma lipids using machine learning algorithm.

There are no reliable blood-based tests currently available for early-stage lung cancer diagnosis. We try to establish a highly accurate method for detecting early-stage lung cancer by combining machine learning with untargeted and targeted metabolomics .

All plasma lipids were first detected by untargeted metabolomics methods and 9 feature lipids of early-stage lung cancer were selected by support vector machine algorithm. Then, a targeted metabolomics method was developed to detect the 9 lipids quantitatively based on multiple reaction monitoring mode. Finally, a detection model was established based on the 9 lipids.

For enrolled participants, 4 ml of peripheral blood were collected in tubes containing EDTA and all participants had fasted at least 8 hr before blood collection. Whole blood was centrifuged at 1600 g for 10 min followed by centrifugation at 16000 g for 10 min. Plasma aliquots were transferred into cryovials and stored at -80 °C.

A detection model based on 9 lipids were developed, including 3 lysophosphatidylcholines, 5 phosphatidylcholines, and a triglyceride. The 9 lipids were detected by targeted metabolomics by mass spectrometry.
